Structure
Description Silicon Carbide (SiC) Micronwhiskers, Nanoparticles, nanodots or nanopowder are spherical high surface area particles. Nanoscale Silicon Carbide Particles are typically 10 - 150 nanometers (nm) with specific surface area (SSA) in the 10 - 75 m2/g range. Nano Silicon Carbide Particles are also available in ultra high purity and high purity and coated and dispersed forms. They are also available as a dispersion through the AE Nanofluid production group. Nanofluids are generally defined as suspended nanoparticles in solution either using surfactant or surface charge technology. Nanofluid dispersion and coating selection technical guidance is also available. Other nanostructures include nanorods, nanowhiskers, nanohorns, nanopyramids and other nanocomposites. Surface functionalized nanoparticles allow for the particles to be preferentially adsorbed at the surface interface using chemically bound polymers.

Application The purpose of the Silicon Carbide Micronwhisker is to leverage the exceptional properties of silicon carbide in targeted applications. Silicon carbide is a versatile material, renowned for its ability to act as an abrasive for grinding, cutting, and polishing glass, as well as sharpening stones. Its application extends to semiconductor technology due to its excellent thermal and electrical conductivity, resistance to oxidation at high temperatures, and impressive durability against abrasion and corrosion. Silicon carbide is particularly unique because it is a man-made mineral, notable for its hard, covalent bonding structure, which is predominantly created through the carbothermal reduction of silica. The Silicon Carbide Micronwhisker is designed to further exploit these properties by offering a high-performance solution that enhances the efficiency and longevity of products in industries requiring robust thermal, electrical, and mechanical performance.
