Aramid Fiber

Aramid fiber is a new type of high-tech synthetic fiber, scientifically known as aromatic polyamide fiber. Its strength is 5-6 times that of steel wire, its modulus is 2-3 times that of steel wire or glass fiber, its toughness is 2 times that of steel wire, and its weight is only about 1/5 of that of steel wire. The discovery of aramid fiber is considered a very important historical process in the material industry. As a fiber material solution provider, Alfa Chemistry provides aramid fiber products to meet specific needs.

Classification

Aramid fiber is mainly divided into three categories: meta-aramid fiber (aramid 1313), para-aramid fiber (aramid 1414, aramid II) and heterocyclic aramid fiber (aramid III). Their chemical structures are similar, but their performance is quite different. Among them, meta-aramid fiber is known as "fireproof fiber", para-aramid fiber is known as "bulletproof fiber", and heterocyclic aramid fiber has better performance than the previous two aramids. For detailed information, please see the table below.

ClassificationFeatureApplication
Meta-aramid fiberHigh heat resistance, flame retardancy and excellent electrical insulationMeta-aramid fiber is used in many fields such as aerospace, fire protection, petrochemicals, electricity, gas, metallurgy, and racing. It can be used to produce various special protective clothing such as flight suits, fire fighting suits, furnace work clothes, welding work clothes, pressure equalizing suits, radiation protection work clothes, chemical protective suits, high-voltage shielding suits, etc.
Para-aramid fiberHigh strength, high heat resistance and excellent toughnessPara-aramid fiber is used in cutting-edge fields such as national defense and military industry. It is used to make bulletproof vests, bulletproof helmets, stab-proof and cut-proof clothing, explosive disposal clothing, high-strength parachutes, bulletproof car bodies, armor plates, etc. In addition to the military field, para-aramid fiber is also widely used in various aspects of the national economy, such as aerospace, electromechanical, communications, construction, automobiles, marine products, and sporting goods.
Heterocyclic aramid fiberHigh heat resistance, flame retardancy and good dimensional stabilityHeterocyclic aramid fiber is widely used in solid rocket engine casings to reduce engine mass. In addition, it also has broad application prospects in bulletproof vests, bulletproof helmets, tanks, shelters and bulletproof armored vehicles.

Performances

  • High strength. Aramid fibers, such as Kevlar and Nomex, are extremely strong and have a very high tensile strength, which makes them ideal for applications requiring materials that can withstand heavy loads or high impact.
  • Heat resistance. Aramid fibers have excellent heat resistance and can withstand high temperatures without melting or degrading. This makes them suitable for use in applications where exposure to heat is a concern, such as in firefighting gear or protective clothing for industrial workers.
  • Chemical resistance. Aramid fibers are resistant to a wide range of chemicals, making them ideal for use in environments where exposure to corrosive substances or harsh chemicals is common.
  • Low weight. Despite their exceptional strength, aramid fibers are lightweight, which makes them ideal for applications where weight is a concern, such as in aerospace or automotive industries.
  • Abrasion resistance. Aramid fibers are highly resistant to abrasion, making them a popular choice for applications where durability and longevity are crucial, such as in ropes, cables, and protective gear.
