Description | Cyanoethyl cellulose (CEC) is an important class of cellulose ethers. It is a cellulose ether obtained by Michael addition reaction of cellulose with acrylonitrile after alkalization. The compound is catalyzed by a strong base to generate a nucleophile, which then undergoes a nucleophilic addition reaction with acrylonitrile with a positron effect. In addition, cyanoethyl cellulose can also be prepared by reacting 3,3-dipropionitrile ether with alkali cellulose. Generally, the reaction is carried out under mild conditions (50°C) and low base catalysts to reduce the hydrolysis of the cyano group, prevent the homopolymerization of acrylonitrile and the formation of by-products. The highly substituted cyanoethyl cellulose is a white fibrous solid. The nitrogen content is generally 12.5% to 12.8%. Cyanoethyl cellulose can be used as an electroluminescent material. In addition, it can also be used to prepare gel polymer electrolytes. |
