Description Polyester fibers are the most widely used fiber in terms of quantity, as they offer the best price-performance ratio in many cases. They are obtained by the melt spinning or polycondensation process. The fibers are inexpensive and versatile, both in technical textiles and in the clothing industry. It convinces with a high tensile strength, is very durable and has a low moisture absorption.

Preparation of Polysulfoneamide Fiber Nano-wrapped Polyester Staple Yarn

Tong X, et al. Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, 2015, 54(49), 12303-12312.

A new type of nano-scale polysulfoneamide (PSA) fiber wrapped polyester (PET) staple yarn was successfully prepared by electrospinning technology. Compared with single polyester yarn, the mechanical properties, thermal properties and hygroscopic properties of the obtained nano-wrapped yarn were significantly improved.
Preparation procedure of PSA wrapped PET yarn
· The electrospinning and wrapping system includes a specially designed grounded funnel collector (made of iron, with a diameter of 100 mm, angle of 30°, and length of 70 mm), a high-voltage power supply, a syringe pump system (featuring stainless steel spinnerets with an inner diameter of 1.25 mm and length of 3 mm), and a step motor utilized for winding up the coated yarns.
· Positioned in front of each side of the funnel collector are two electrospinning nozzles. The funnel collector has a square tunnel (5 mm) in the middle through which polyester staple yarns pass, while the winder system is situated between the nozzles at a distance of 200 mm.
· The two needles of the syringes are linked to the positive electrodes of a dc power supply. The funnel collector is placed opposite to the two positive nozzles, resulting in electrostatic induction with negative charges.
· Consequently, nanofibers from the nozzles are electrospun and deposited onto the funnel collector, which also acts as a twister to wind PSA nanofibers onto the surface of polyester staple yarns.
