Description Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) is a non-ionic cellulose ether made of natural polymer material cellulose through a series of etherification. It is an odorless, tasteless and nontoxic white powder that swells in cold water to a clear or slightly hazy colloidal solution. Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose is partly substituted by o-methyl group and partly substituted by o-2-hydroxypropyl group, and is divided into different grades because of different viscosity and degree of substitution. It has the characteristics of thickening, dispersing, emulsification, film-forming, suspension, adsorption, surface activity, water retention and protective colloid.
